Join us for trendtalk#10: It’s élan (not Milan)

Held in Cape Town during the annual Milan fair period, the next trendtalk www.trendtalk.co.za will serve as a dose of trends inspiration for local creatives and designers and takes place on 17 April 2015 at the Inner City Ideas Cartel Auditorium.

An on-the-pulse event co-hosted by www.laurenshantall.com and Inhouse Brands Architects, the line-up for trendtalk#10 sports seasoned trend forecasters and thought leaders who will share their insights on trends in lifestyle, décor and design.

trendtalk#10 is open to all parties at no cost, but the event is held in aid of design charity, Rock Girl. Voluntary donations are welcome. The session will run from 15h30 to 17h00.

Key speakers at the event include global shaper, Saint-Francis Tohlang, accomplished architect and head of GIFA, Daniel van der Merwe of PPC, and partner at Trend+Design Solutions, Peter Gordon.

In addition, Trend+Design Solutions will be running a pop-up bookshop that will carry the latest trend publications such as Viewpoint, View on Textiles, Bloom, Mix, Trend Bible, and others.

Guests can look forward to lucky draw giveaways by Church Original Projects and Rafaeli. Complimentary refreshments will be served by Sir Juice and Tribe Coffee.

Seating is unreserved so guests are advised to come early to secure a seat. The event carries two CPD points for IID members.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Saint-Francis Tohlang

Saint-Francis Tohlang

Saint-Francis Tohlang works as an independent trend analyst for various trend firms, both local and international, offering key insights into emerging market trends with an African focus. He has built a credible reputation in the field and provides commentary to national media houses and publications such as Bizcommunity, CNBC Africa, Finweek, Financial Mail and AllAfrica.com. Tohlang was a contributor to a best-selling publication: New Urban Tribes of South Africa edited by Dion Chang, and also contributes trend insight pieces for Flux Trends.

Saint-Francis holds an Honours degree from Rhodes University and an MA from the University of Cape Town (with distinction) where he was the recipient of scholarships, most notably the Andrew Mellon Prestigious Scholarship and the ‘Rhodes Top 100 Students’ award.

In 2013, he was selected as a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, a plaudit for young global leaders and serves as the Deputy Curator for the Johannesburg hub.

Daniel van der Merwe

Daniel studied landscape architecture at the University of Pretoria and completed his studies in architecture at the University of Witwatersrand in 1988. He gained work experience in a number of design projects under Stefan Antoni Architects in Cape Town, Manfred Hermer as well as Grosskopff and Lombart Architects in Johannesburg.

Daniel has maintained a high profile as a seasoned speaker at university level frequently giving public lectures. His contribution to architectural and trade magazines has made him a favourite with industry media. He moved into a position at the Cement and Concrete Institute heading the architectural concrete focus area until May 2013 and joined then PPC Ltd as an Architect and a member of their specialist technical marketing division. He is the brainchild behind the PPC Imaginarium.

Daniel currently serves on the SA Institute of Architects Board (SAIA) and it’s Mancom as Convenor: Marketing, and is the current president of the Gauteng Institute for Architecture (GIFA).

Peter Gordon

Peter

Peter Gordon is a partner at Trend+Design Solutions, distributors and agents for some of the leading international fashion trend and design publications. Titles include Viewpoint, View on Textiles, Bloom, Mix, Trend Bible, Scout and TrendStop.  Peter has been involved in retail and design for many years. Apart from Trend+Design Solutions, he consults to various companies on design and trend-related issues.
